Our Week in the Forest
What a torrential storm of kindness this week has been, pouring magic manners over our heads and spilling heart-shaped actions everywhere.
Our focus this week was PSED, inspired by our book of the week, Be Kind.
From the very start, we set the tone by creating our own magic kindness wands, making sure kindness would sparkle its way into every corner of our camp.
Children carefully shaped hearts out of clay using their hands, searched for the most exquisite fairy sticks and decorated them with special gems. The process was full of patience, focus, turn-taking and excitement that shone brightly on everyoneβs faces. Through this hands-on experience they strengthened their sensory awareness and fine motor skills while pouring creativity into every detail.
Clay became the heart of our week. We explored it in many different ways, moulding it into new shapes and letting imagination guide our hands. Later, we made breathing beads from clay, carefully threading them onto string to create necklaces and bracelets, a gentle reminder of calm moments and mindful breathing.
Love truly filled the air as children mixed magical love potions using petals, stems, glitter, and vibrant colours. Of course, no potion would be complete without the most powerful ingredients of all: kindness, love, appreciation and gratitude. As they stirred, children spoke about the people they care about, reminding us all that happiness grows from the loving actions we choose to share.
Throughout the week, we reflected on how to show kindness in everyday situations. It was heartwarming to witness our little explorers looking after one another, offering helping hands, gentle words and thoughtful gestures without even being asked.
This morning we transformed the camp into a florist, which we named βFulham Flowersβ. Our Little Forest Folk-ers were faced with all kinds of flowers, multicoloured tulips, thorny roses, lilies and both baby and large daffodils Children got to select flower stems themselves, and created a pile of colour and textures. Children helped me cut brown paper, then wrap the flowers, securing them with a twine bow. We discussed the people that we loved, we heard lots of βmummy, daddy, nannyβ and even βdogs and pets!β. We explored how flower/gift giving is a sign of love and we can express our love for our families with our considerate creation.
Another wonderful week, we hope you have a lovely weekend!
